How eDPI Is Calculated

Effective Dots Per Inch (eDPI) eliminates hardware variation. If Player A plays on 0.4 sens at 800 DPI and Player B plays on 0.8 sens at 400 DPI, both have identical in-game rotation speed:

UNIVERSAL FORMULA
eDPI = In-Game Sensitivity × Hardware DPI
Example 1: 0.35 × 800 DPI 280 eDPI
Example 2: 0.175 × 1600 DPI 280 eDPI (Identical)

Why eDPI Doesn't Cross Games

Every game uses an internal camera multiplier called mouse yaw. Because of this, identical eDPI numbers in different games result in wildly different rotation speeds:

Valorant (Yaw: 0.070°) 280 eDPI
CS2 (Yaw: 0.022°) 891 eDPI
Overwatch 2 (Yaw: 0.0066°) 2,970 eDPI

Everything You Need to Know About eDPI

DPI (Dots Per Inch) is a hardware specification of your mouse sensor representing how many counts the optical sensor reports per inch of physical movement. eDPI (Effective DPI) is the mathematical product of your hardware DPI and your in-game sensitivity slider multiplier. eDPI represents your actual cursor/crosshair speed within the game.
Yes. Testing across modern optical sensors (Focus Pro 30K, HERO 2, PixArt 3395) proves that 1600 DPI significantly reduces start-of-motion click-to-photon latency compared to 400 DPI because the sensor requires 4x less physical distance to register the first count report. You can switch to 1600 DPI, reduce your in-game sensitivity proportionally, and preserve the exact same eDPI while enjoying lower input lag.
In Valorant, over 70% of VCT Champions play between 200 and 320 eDPI (with 280 eDPI being the exact mathematical median). In Counter-Strike 2, top professionals cluster between 700 and 1000 eDPI (e.g., NiKo plays at 560 eDPI, donk plays at 1000 eDPI, and ZywOo plays at 800 eDPI).
